I have recently started to develop a specialized focus in doing pre-surgical psychological evaluations for patients who are being considered for bariatric surgery (including lapband and gastric-bypass procedures). In the past year I have received an increasing number of referrals from both gastroenterologists as well as insurance companies for individuals who are candidates for these procedures. Thus far, I have found these evaluations to be a helpful and enjoyable addition to my practice, and I have consequently developed a standard protocol (interview + testing + report) which is being used very successfully.
